Bible Society Campaign Song Nominated for Gem Award

|PIC1|Singer and songwriter Freddie Kofi, has been nominated into two categories for this year’s Gem awards. The musician has been nominated into the categories for the Best Artiste as well as for Best Single for his hit ‘Kiss’.

The Gem awards have been in existence for three years now and were created to celebrate the best in contemporary UK gospel music. This year the awards winners will be announced to the public on Oct. 29, 2005.

Supporting the release of Kiss in Bristol earlier this year in May, was the Bible Society. The single was in fact released as part of the Bible Society Bristol Campaign.

The campaign was a new initiative by the Bible Society that brought the public’s attention to the relevance of the Bible to their daily lives.

Posters were shown across the city featuring soap opera look-a-likes, asking the people of Bristol questions about various UK soap characters.

For example, topical questions such as “Can pat ever leave her past behind?” and “Can Alfie ever trust Kat again?” were seen.

|TOP|Two weeks after these initial posters were put up, new versions were released revealing that the campaign was about the Bible. The new message given to the public was, “Soap stories and the Bible. Both full of life’s struggles, choices and emotions. The Bible: more relevant than you thought?”

The Bible Society Bristol Campaign was supported by Kaleidoscope, which is a programme consisting of over 100 events to explore life, culture and spirituality.

Also as part of the campaign, Freddie Kofi performed at various venues across the city. Kofi said, “I am honoured to be nominated for the Gem awards. Being involved with the Bible Society campaign through the single Kiss was a big privilege. It is great to work alongside an organisation that is challenging people with such a relevant message.”

Kiss earlier this year won the British Academy Song Search UK 2005 (Contemporary Christian Category).
