Thor (Chris Hemsworth) lost his biggest source of pride — the Mjolnir — during the climactic battle with Hela (Cate Blanchett) in "Thor Ragnarok," but he will not be weaponless for long. A concept art shown in an "Avengers: Infinity War" behind-the-scenes video confirms he is gaining a new weapon, depicting the God of Thunder wielding what appears to be an ax alongside Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper).

Speculations are rife it is the battle-ax called Jarnbjorn that Thor used hundreds of years ago when he was too unworthy to lift Mjolnir, but the story behind how he gets it in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) remains a mystery. That is until a new report courtesy of SuperBroMovies surfaced.

Citing an unnamed source allegedly involved in the production of "Infinity War," the publication claims it comes with a little help from Groot (teen version played by Terry Notary), the living tree. Hemsworth's character reportedly gets the ax forged in the film but ends up only with the head. The dilemma is solved when the teen Guardian offers a part of his wooden self to be used as the weapon's handle.

There is no way to confirm this at the moment, so it is best to be taken with a grain of salt. However, those who saw the exclusive "Infinity War" sizzle reel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) know the Asgardian does cross paths with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Notary previously teased as well that his character will make new friends in the upcoming installment, so the idea of him helping out the son of the late Odin (Anthony Hopkins) makes sense, to say the least.

Either way, fans will see what is in store for the God of Thunder and the MCU's mightiest superheroes when "Avengers: Infinity War" opens in cinemas. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film is set to premiere on May 4, 2018.
