Tom Hiddleston's Loki may have stood by Thor (Chris Hemsworth) throughout the fight with Hela (Cate Blanchett) in "Thor: Ragnarok," but the Marvel villain will be back to his conniving roots in "Avengers: Infinity War."

According to reports, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed during a question and answer session at Comic-Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil that the God of Mischief will be siding with Thanos (Josh Brolin) instead of his brother and the Avengers in the upcoming film.

Loki's betrayal has been a subject of discussion since the third "Thor" installment premiered. While he appeared to have found his inner good guy in the film, it has been teased that he grabbed the Tesseract when he journeyed to his father's vault to retrieve Surtur's head. The "Infinity War" trailer confirmed he indeed took the powerful artifact behind his brother's back.

As seen from the footage, the mystical cube that houses the Space Stone is in Loki's palm and he seems to be giving it to someone presumably Thanos. Now, the question is whether handing it to the Mad Titan was his plot all along or he is just forced to do so.

If it is the former, it will not the first time he will be working for the purple baddie. In the first "Avengers" film, he also conspired with Thanos who gave him a scepter that carried the Mind Stone to summon the Chitauri horde and conquer Earth to no avail.

The Tesseract was brought back to Asgard, but the scepter was left in SHIELD custody. In "Age of Ultron," it was revealed the weapon was used by the evil organization Hydra to experiment on humans, giving powers to the Maximoff twins, known as Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). The Avengers successfully retrieved it and used it to create Vision (Paul Bettany) who still possesses the Infinity Stone until now.

"Avengers: Infinity War" opens cinemas on May 4, 2018.
