'Anthem' news: Bioware's new game officially delayed to 2019

"Anthem" was originally set to be released in the fall of 2018 for Windows Computer, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One X.YouTube/BioWare

It is official now; "Anthem" will not be arriving this year, as the developers and the publisher of the upcoming multiplayer video game have announced that it will be delayed to early 2019.

This pushed back the original release date of the "Anthem" several months from Fall 2018. This eventually proved the earlier rumors that Bioware, the developer, will not be able to stick by the original release schedule for "Anthem" after the mistakes they did on their last game "Mass Effect: Andromeda." Whether or not they are being pressured by EA, their publisher, remains to be seen.

However, EA does not want to call the change of plans a "delay" since it apparently does not have anything to do with the development being behind schedule, somehow. EA also denied the rumors that there was a problem with the development of the game hence the delay, though it did not specify why "Anthem's" release was going to be moved several months.

"It's not a delay. People are trying to create a story," said EA CFO Blake Jorgensen. This was despite the apparent delay in the release date of the game, EA also did not comment on what they wanted it to be called.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson, on the other hand, stated, "Regardless of how it's being portrayed, we're not looking at that as a delay, we've chosen to launch 'Anthem' in [the fourth quarter]. The date is chosen by by portfolio balance, not product readiness And we're really excited by the way the new Battlefield is shaping up. It probably doesn't make too much sense to launch 'Anthem' right by it. As a new IP, it probably makes sense to give ['Anthem'] its own launch window."

This basically means that they simply wanted to make room for the new "Battlefield" game and that the "not delay" was just a marketing move instead of a development backlog. As for the new "Battlefield" game though, no new information has been revealed by EA or the game's developers, but it might be expected to arrive sometime this year given how "Anthem" was pushed back due to it.
