Christians in the U.S. will gather again for the 27th Capitol Bible Reading Marathon that will take place starting on May 1 up to May 5 at the U.S. Capitol West Front.

The event will be a four-day, 90 continuous hours of Bible reading from Genesis to Revelation without commentary.

According to Rev. Michael Hall, event co-director, "during these five days, hundreds of Bible believers will travel to the West Front of the U.S. Capitol to read a portion of the Bible, to listen and to pray," Charisma News reports.

"The U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon began in 1990. The event serves to honor the Bible, celebrate religious freedom and unite the diverse branches of Christianity around the Bible," he said.

In 1990, the first U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon was held and organised by Dr. John Hash and Dr. Corinthia Boone.

The goals were to honor God's Holy Word; to celebrate Christians' First Amendment freedoms of speech, assembly, religion; and to set aside denominational differences and unify the diverse body of Christ around the Holy Bible.

Hall said the public reading of the Bible "will call the nation to return to God's precepts and will lay a solid foundation for the National Day of Prayer."

"There will be 100 English and foreign language versions of the Bible available to be read," he said.

The foundation of the event is Isaiah 55:11, which says, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."

The closing ceremony of the Bible reading marathon will include Faith and Action's Rev. Rob Schenck alongside Hall and Terry Hall from The People's Church.

Performers are gospel recording artist Nathan Kistler and Karen Knight, lead vocalist of the Sight & Sound Theater.

The Color Guard & Flag Ceremony will be performed by the American Heritage Troop & Trail Life USA Troop.
