Celebrating 400 years of Baptist history

In the early 1600s, a group of Christians travelled from England to Amsterdam to live out their faith free from persecution. They met regularly to study the Bible and pray in the back room of an Amsterdam bakery, and by 1609 the first Baptist church had been established under the leadership of Thomas Helwys and John Smyth. In the four hundred years since, the Baptist movement has grown into a worldwide community of more than 100 million followers and to celebrate this historic anniversary, Baptists will gather in Amsterdam from 24 to 26 July in the splendid surroundings of the RAI Centre. Keep up to date with all the latest from the celebrations here!
