9 June 2009 | The Temple of the Holy Spirit

Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, whom you have received as a Gift from God? You are not your own.
1 Corinthians 6:19, Amp

Notes

The last few chapters of Exodus give God’s detailed instructions to Moses on the making of the artefacts for the Tabernacle which the Israelites would build in the Wilderness as their place of worship. Everything had to be perfectly constructed and when it was all ready, it was consecrated. At that moment, God came to dwell, or tabernacle, with His people.

Paul tells us that our bodies are now the ‘temple of the Holy Spirit’. We have been ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ (Psalm 139: 14), and are cleansed and consecrated by the blood of Jesus to be a holy dwelling place for Him. Our King has come to tabernacle with us and in us. What an amazing privilege!

Jesus tells His disciples to say to those whom they met on their missionary journeys that ‘The Kingdom of God has come close to you’ (Luke 10:9). In a very special way, as we go about our daily lives, we are taking the Kingdom of God with us in our ‘temple-bodies’ and displaying God to those around us. That’s an awesome thought.

In the same way that the Israelites had to make everything perfect for the Tabernacle, we need to make ourselves perfect for Him and allow Him to cleanse us to be a fitting place for Him to dwell.

Prayer

Father God, I so wish to display Your glory to others through my life. Please cleanse me and make my body a fitting place for You to tabernacle with me that I might be Your light to those around me. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
