26 August 2008 | Colossians 1:9-14

We have not stopped praying for you since the first day we heard about you. In fact, we always pray that God will show you everything he wants you to do and that you may have all the wisdom and understanding that his Spirit gives.

Then you will live a life that honours the Lord, and you will always please him by doing good deeds. You will come to know God even better. His glorious power will make you patient and strong enough to endure anything, and you will be truly happy.

I pray that you will be grateful to God for letting you have part in what he has promised his people in the kingdom of light. God rescued us from the dark power of Satan and brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son, who forgives our sins and sets us free.

Notes

How would you like to have been on the receiving end of Paul's prayers?

First, his prayers for the Christians in Colossae are non-stop. They are on his heart and mind 24/7.

Next, because he believes in a big, expansive God, his prayers for them are also big and expansive. So he prays that they would have all spiritual wisdom, please the Lord in every way, bear fruit in every good work, be strengthened with all power and have great endurance and patience.

Paul's prayers are fuelled with great expectations and therefore have lift-off!

Another reason why he prays for them with such enthusiasm is because he has already received such encouraging news about the growth of their faith.

So, as Paul popped this letter in the post, we know that prayers are energised not only by our vision of God, but also by the two-way news we receive from each other.

And remember, there is one very special person who is praying for you today - Jesus. He always lives to intercede for us. Imagine being on the receiving end of his prayers. Wow!

What Jesus has achieved in the lives of his followers to this day is amazing! He has revealed his glory to ordinary people like you and me, and taken us out of the kingdom of darkness to work for the 'kingdom of light'. Give thanks for the difference he has made to your life.

Prayer

Do you remember who you thanked God for yesterday? If you do, pray for them again. Ask God to do something bigger than you can imagine in their lives.
