When I came to Troas to preach the Good News of Christ, the Lord gave me a good opportunity there. But I had no peace, because I did not find my brother Titus. So I said good-bye to them at Troas and went to Macedonia. But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ's victory parade. God uses us to spread his knowledge everywhere like a sweet-smelling perfume. Our offering to God is this: We are the sweet smell of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are being lost. To those who are lost, we are the smell of death that brings death, but to those who are being saved, we are the smell of life that brings life. So who is able to do this work? We do not sell the word of God for a profit as many other people do. But in Christ we speak the truth before God, as messengers of God.
Notes
The day I wrote this I sent an email to friends of ours in Ukraine with whom we have helped to run Christian camps. If we have real love and concern for people we like to keep in touch with them. We like to know how they are doing and share any good news with them. If we lose touch or don't hear from them for a while it makes us sad.
Although Paul's ministry was going well, he felt unsettled in Troas because he hadn't met up with his friend Titus, who he had been looking forward to seeing and from whom he hoped to hear good news of the Christians to whom he wrote this letter (2 Corinthians 7:5-7).
God made us for relationships with Him and with each other. No matter how good things are for us, we feel incomplete without friends around us. Today may be a good day for you to phone a friend, to get back in touch with someone, invite somebody round or pay them a visit. We need to keep our friendships alive, to help each other in our faith and enjoy the goodness of God and the world he's given us. Do something today to make yourself and someone else feel connected.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for the friends and family you've given me. Please help me to be a good friend to them. Amen.Written by Captain Peter Grieve
