Youth Called to Gather in Soul in the City Follow Up

During Summer 2004 Soul in the City successfully inspired thousands of youth across London and the UK. As a one week follow-up to last year’s event, Northolt will this Summer be inviting today’s youth to learn new skills.

The new initiative will be targeting 8 to 16 year-olds and will hope to show them skills that will allow them to follow well-known artists and coaches in their lives.

The event will take place at the Dovetail Centre at St Joseph’ Church from 23-26 August, with morning and afternoon workshops scheduled to be carried out by Soul.

Rev Betsy Blatchley, who is the project co-ordinator said, “We want to give local young people a chance to experience quality coaching and enjoy themselves as the summer holidays draw to a close.”

Events will be largely run by volunteers from local churches, and throughout the event there will the free entrance and activities for attendees.

In efforts to attract the youthful attendees, events such as freestyle music and MC battling has been organised for the evenings, and a special open mic competition arranged for Friday.

Rev Simon Winn, who is the vicar of St Joseph’s Church said, “Last summer several hundred children and youth took part in our 'Soul in the City' activities and it generated loads of enthusiasm and goodwill in our community.

“Our team of dedicated volunteers want to run something similar for local youngsters to enjoy again.”
