Xiaomi could unveil the much-awaited Redmi Note 2 on Aug. 16. The news came from Mobipicker who spotted a couple of hints on Weibo from the company's very own marketing manager Mr. Tony and IHS Technology director Wang Yang.

The site quoted Mr. Tony's Weibo post that reads, "Do not wait so long to see the side, right? 816 See Beijing."

In reference to the post, Yan wrote, "Qiazhiyisuan, debut of the Redmi Note 2."

This was taken to mean that Xiaomi will take the covers off the Redmi Note 2 during an Aug. 16 event that will happen in Beijing. Apart from the smartphone, Xiaomi's latest Android UI, the MIUI 7, is also expected to be unmasked there.

According to Phone Arena, Aug. 16 isn't a date that's too far-fetched, at least by Xiaomi standards. The site explains that the said date is likely a day the tech firm would pick to assemble the press and drop news about smartphone deals or accessories.

There's no official word coming from Xiaomi regarding this but if the Redmi Note 2 is really going to show up in two weeks, the China-based company is expected to share more details in the coming days to make it official. At the moment though, Xiaomi has its lips sealed.

Previous leaks claim that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 will feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a 401 ppi pixel density. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor could fire it up but Phone Arena says it will come in two versions – one with a Snapdragon 615 chipset and the other with MediaTek MT6795 SoC.

Whatever the processor unit Xiaomi will go for, it will most likely be coupled with 2 GB RAM and 8 GB or 16 GB expandable storage. A 13 MP and 5 MP camera combo is also rumored, along with either a 3100 or a 3020 mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is expected to run Android 5.0 Lollipop. It could also debut with the MIUI 7.
