A live-action series will bring the X-Men back on the small screen, if Marvel gives the green light to Fox Entertainment. 

The Hollywood Reporter obtained several information claiming that the network is in the early stage of negotiations to bring the multimillion film and comic book franchise on TV. 

According to sources, Evan Katz and Manny Coto, the executive producers behind the "24" TV series, will spearhead the development of the alleged live-action superhero series. 

If the deal will push through, this will be the first time that X-Men will be featured in live-action in a TV series. The popular Marvel comics was featured as a morning cartoon show back in the 1990s, which ran from 1992 until 1997. 

TV Insider first broke the news about the possible "X-Men" TV show early this week, after Dana Walden and Gary Newman, the heads of Fox Entertainment, discussed the potential of the show during the Television Critics Association press tour. 

"It's in negotiations. We're cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative," Newman claimed. 

The network head discussed the possibility of bringing the mutant superheroes to TV while talking about the network's plans to revive two of their most iconic series, "The X-Files" featuring Chris Carter as well as a limited reboot of Wentworth Miller's "Prison Break." 

If Marvel agrees to bring "X-Men" to TV, the script will be written by "Star Trek 3" writing partners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who will also be credited as the showrunners together with Katz and Coto. 

Marvel currently airs two comic book adaptations on TV, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Agent Carter," both on ABC. Meanwhile, four Netflix series featuring some of the Marvel characters will be aired soon. It will include "Iron Fist," "A.K.A. Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage," as well as "Daredevil."
