'X-Men: Apocalypse' character and plot news: Comic-Con panel reveals identities of Four Horsemen

Apocalypse and the Four Horsemen20th Century Fox

"X-Men: Apocalypse" was presented at this year's San Diego Comic-Con and a promotional poster gave fans their first good look at the titular villain Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac. However, during the panel, Isaac also revealed who the Four Horsemen will be.

In the "X-Men" comic books and television shows, Apocalypse is known as the world's first mutant and is also one of the most powerful mutants in the universe. However, he also tends to take four other mutants, brainwash them, and then grant them power as he takes them in as his Four Horsemen. They are nicknamed Death, War, Famine, and Pestilence.

For the film, Isaac revealed that these roles will be filled by Angel, Storm, Psylocke, and Magneto, played by Ben Hardy, Alexandra Shipp, Olivia Munn, and Michael Fassbender, respectively. This may change in the film, as it is expected that Psylocke and Storm may switch sides to the good guys, but for a portion of the movie, they will be the iconic Horsemen.

Angel is the most recognizable as he has been a member of Apocalypse's Horsemen in the comics many times. Previously released concept art for the film also indicates that Apocalypse will turn him into the more powerful Archangel.

Psylocke and Storm have also been members of the Four Horsemen but mostly in different television cartoon shows and very rarely in the comic books. Both are expected to switch sides and become members of the X-Men. Concept art has shown Storm fighting Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) so her inclusion is not much of a big surprise.

Magneto is the most surprising, as pointed out in a report from Cinema Blend, as he is supposed to be settling down with a family when he is recruited by Apocalypse.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to be released on May 26, 2016.
