Wills raise funds for communities in need

Catholic development agency SCIAF is asking supporters to sign up to Will Aid next month.

Solicitors all over the UK will waive their usual will-writing fees next month for the fundraiser.

SCIAF is among the nine Will Aid charities to benefit from the scheme.

Will-makers are asked to make a donation reflecting the time and expertise they have devoted to writing a will.

The suggested donation is £90 for a single Will, £135 for a pair of mirror Wills or £40 for a codicil or change to a previous Will.

SCIAF’s Legacies Officer Catriona Yates works closely with Will Aid and wants to promote it to the charity’s many supporters.

She said: “Will Aid is effective. Not only does it raise a substantial amount of money for SCIAF and other charities, it also motivates people to get on and make their will – something that many people have been meaning to get around to for years."

Last year, Will Aid raised over £95,000 for SCIAF's work in countries like South Sudan, Ethiopia, DR Congo, Haiti and Burma.

The funds went towards tools, seeds and training for thousands of people.

Yates continued: "For anyone who hasn’t yet made a Will I would encourage them to take part in Will Aid this November."
