People from all walks of life often face troubles of various kinds. Some fear that the troubles that they face will eventually overwhelm them.

However, those who belong to God should not fear any problem that might arise.

The Bible tells us that God is sovereign over all things, and that He is good. His goodness coupled with His limitless power should be enough to make all of us feel secure, and enough to see our problems as insignificantly small because we have such a big God.

Why we should trust God in times of trouble

Psalm 23 perfectly describes how and why we should trust in the Lord when we are faced with insurmountable problems. It's just six verses across, but it fully captures how trustworthy our God is.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

David sang of how happy and content he is for having the Lord God as his Shepherd. A shepherd faithfully cares for the sheep under his care. God, however, is more than just a shepherd: He laid His life down for our salvation (see John 10:15). He loves us and is for us, with all His power and might.

"He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters."

God is sure to be good to us, providing all that we need as we follow Him. He provides us with our needs and gives us rest and peace from all our troubles.

"He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake."

God restores our weary hearts, minds and bodies when we are down for He is the lifter of our heads (see Psalm 3:3). He also teaches us His way, which is the best way for us to go.

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."

We are secure in the loving arms of our God. We can never be separated from His love, and nothing can ever snatch us out of His hands (see Romans 8:38-39; John 10:28-29).

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over."

God is doing us good even when we are in the midst of troubles. In fact, Christ has already disarmed our enemies, and has seated us with Him in the heavenly realm, allowing us to live our lives for His glory and purpose. He has canceled the record of charges that the enemy held against us, and justified us by the blood of Jesus (see Colossians 2:13-15).

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

As children of God, we can be sure that God's mercies, which are new every morning, will be available to us. We can come to Him confidently at any time (see Hebrews 4:16). Thus, we should learn to walk with God intimately, always.
