Why the cross of Christ is all we need for everything

Many Christians fail to realise that we have all that we need in Christ. Some of us look to money and provisions so that our faith will grow. Some of us look to certain "anointed" ministers and think that if that man or woman of God prays for us we'll have a better, more God-glorifying, blessed life. Think again. You have all that you need in Christ.

The cross is the only way

The Bible says that God will meet all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ (see Philippians 4:19). When that verse said "all our needs," it simply meant that God will meet our bodily, emotional, mental, financial, social and spiritual needs through Christ. Another thing that we need to understand is that He will meet all of these when we are in Christ.

How do we become "in Christ?" It's only through His shed blood on the cross.

The cross of Christ acts like a gate for all of us who believe. Before the cross, we were all slaves to the law. In the law, we were all subject to sin and death, and no matter what we do, we will all end up short of God's glory. But when the cross of Christ came, we were given the way to be who God created us to be: His children who were meant to do good works while experiencing the lavish love of God (see Romans 7, 8:1-4; Ephesians 2:10).

Those who don't believe haven't passed through the cross, and are still in sin. Those who believe and have fully placed their trust in Christ for their forgiveness and salvation are now under grace, within the secure arms of the Father.

The cross is our sign

The cross is our sign of freedom. No, it's not that we will make the sign of the cross, rather, when we think of and look at the cross of Christ, we see the victory that He has won for us. We are reminded of our very pitiful, sorry state of hopelessness from which He freed us and purchased us from. We are reminded of Jesus, the great love of God that took upon Himself our sin, our shame and our punishment just so we could become sons and daughters of God Most High (see 1 Peter 2:24; Isaiah 53:4; Galatians 3:13).

The cross is our key

Christ paid for our forgiveness, freedom and redemption on that cross. He bought us with His own blood and has taken us out of sin's dominion, taking us into His Kingdom (see Colossians 1:13-14). And now that we are God's adopted children, what stops God from giving us all that we need to live a life of godliness into Christ-likeness (see Romans 8:32)?

Friends, the cross is our key to all that we need. On that cross is the shed blood of our Saviour that overcomes the evil one (see John 16:33; Revelation 12:11). On that cross hangs nailed our sin, shame and condemnation. On that cross our enemies are disarmed and rendered powerless (see Colossians 2:13-15).

On that cross Christ paid for all that we will ever need.
