Fighting for devotionals can get hard. When our days get busy and times are tough, the first thing that often goes out the window is our time spent with God. We know that syncing with Jesus is important, and we know we desperately need it, but why is it often so hard to keep a strong devotions plan in place?

One of the leaders I mentor at church once shared an interesting thought with us a few months back that has stuck with me for a very long time. He said this: "Diamonds are valuable because they're hard to get." Seems simple and obvious, but when we take that principle and apply it to everything, we will find that a lot of other things will make more sense.

The higher the value of something, the harder it is to get. I've been working on a house purchase the past few months and it's terribly hard. Way harder than buying a bag of groceries that's for sure. That's because the difficulty of acquiring something is directly proportional to the value of something.

And the same is true for our quiet time. Our time with God is extremely and immensely valuable, and many times we will have to fight for it. And fight for it we should. Psalm 42:1 says "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God." It's profound to think why a deer would pant for a stream in the first place. It's probably because the deer had to work double time to find the stream and get to it.

Your time with God will forever be something you have to fight for. Many times, we will find it's easy to read the Bible and pray, but there will also be many (if not more) times where devotionals will be a challenge to keep regularly.

If we truly know the value of our time spent with God, we will not be afraid to fight for it and to wrestle even the most hectic of days without leaving God out of the picture. The moment we neglect our quiet time, we declare that we don't need God and that other things are more important than Him. The moment we fight for our quiet time, we declare that we need God in everything we do.
