What is the greatest miracle in the Bible?

The God we serve is a God of supernatural miracles. Jesus promised to us before leaving earth that by His name and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we would do acts of wonders that would surpass even what He had done.

God has been in the business of making miracles happen from day one. Because we serve a God that exists beyond the natural, He has the ability to make things happen that supersede human understanding. From miraculous healing, provision, demon liberation and other signs and wonders, God moves in many ways.

But what is the greatest miracle that the Bible ever speaks of? Is it supernatural healing or supernatural provision? Looking at Acts 16:25-40, we see an account of what the most powerful miraculous move of God looks like during the time Paul and Silas are put in prison. No I am not referring to how God made the ground shake and the captives of the prison go free, but what happens in Acts 16:25:

"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them."

The greatest miracle that happens in this account is not that God shook the earth, but that God shook two hearts of imprisoned apostles causing them to pray to and worship God even in the direst circumstances. The greatest miracle that God can and will ever do is the transformation of a heart, and no miracle will ever compare to that.

The people who heard the first evangelistic message in Acts 2:37 reacted like this, "Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?'"

The greatest supernatural sign that God ever performs is the turning of the heart to Him in reconciliation, redemption and salvation. That's why God's greatest miracle happened on a cross when the Son exchanged our sinfulness with His righteousness so that we would be liberated from all transgressions and commune with God forever starting in this life.

So often many Christians ask God for greater signs and wonders not realising that God has already caused the greatest miracle to happen in our life already when He took our hearts of stone and made them hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26), when Jesus came down as man to give us eternal life. Every other miracle today comes only as a result of Christ's finished work on the cross and the miracle of salvation He has already performed in our lives.  It's especially important to remember this perspective when we are praying or launching out in faith on a new endeavour.

John 15:13 says, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." The great love of Jesus for all mankind which resulted in His miraculous finished work of saving us by grace is the greatest and will forever be the greatest miracle.
