Many Christians today struggle with living mediocre lives, and one of the reasons is because they do not know or understand their calling in the Lord. I've known some people who have given so much of their time trying to know what God called them to be – so much that they end up not doing anything else.

That in itself is a problem. Are you having trouble making sure of your calling in the Lord? If you are, I have an encouragement for you.

Your Calling

We really don't have to sweat it out in an attempt to know and understand "what our calling really is." Some want to be a prophet, an apostle, or somebody 'great' in the Kingdom of God. To be honest, that's not a calling that signifies a high place in the Kingdom. Those are simply roles that we play in God's well-thought plan. (see Matthew 20:26, 23:11; Mark 9:35; Ephesians 4)

Friends, we were simply called to be God's children, to be fashioned into the likeness and image of Christ Jesus. If you're wondering where the apostle, evangelist, prophet, pastor and teacher callings went, you shouldn't. What you should think about is how you could represent Jesus on earth.

God's Glory, Not Ours

I've seen many carry titles that Christ Jesus Himself didn't bother to label Himself with. There are some who proclaim they're a "prophet," and others who have been labeled as "evangelist." Don't get me wrong – I love people such as the apostle Paul, Philip the evangelist, or those in today's time such as evangelists Reinhard Bonnke and Billy Graham. But these men know it's not to their glory that they were given such a role.

All of these men simply pointed people to Christ in whatever they said or did. Their lives became living messages of God's saving grace and love as given to us through Jesus. These men have dedicated their lives for such a purpose. After all, Christ bought us with His blood, and God wants us to be like Christ. (see 1 Peter 1:19; 1 Corinthians 6:20; Romans 8:29)

In the same way, my friends, we shouldn't fuss about having the office of the evangelist to be able to share the gospel, or the office of the prophet to speak the Word of God. We don't need these titles. What we need to know is that we are children of God, and that we must live as such. (see Ephesians 4:1; Philippians 1:27; Colossians 1:10)

Make It Yours

Friend, make it yours. If you have repented of your sins, put your faith in Christ alone. If you have followed Him as your Lord, the Bible says you are a child of God. Own it. Tell yourself that you are a child of God, and do your very best, in His grace, to live a life worthy of the calling you have received through Christ: the call to be a child of the eternal God.
