"Under the Dome" Season 2 finale aired on Monday, Sept. 22, but until now, there is still no word if the series will be renewed or cancelled.

The season 2 finale episode is titled "Go Now" and the official synopsis reads: "A potential exit from the Dome is revealed just as the walls begin closing in on those trapped in Chester's Mill."

Meanwhile, "Under the Dome" fans are hoping and wishing for a renewal. According to The Epoch Times, the renewal may happen if it's based on the ratings alone. The first season averaged 11 million viewers and the second season averaged 7.1 million viewers. This isn't really a bad number considering it's a second season. So if the decision will be based on the ratings, there's a chance it will get renewed for one last final season.

CBS also may have dropped a subtle hint on whether the show is going to be renewed or not. After all, it did say Season 2 finale and not series finale.

Fans are hoping for a season 3 order, to give the series a more justifiable -- and perhaps, even a happy -- ending. Executive producer Neal Baer told Assignment X, "We're definitely going to answer questions, as was asked before about Barbie. What was Barbie doing there? We're going to answer things for sure over the period of this season, but of course, there will be new questions. But we will really answer what that egg is this year. We're going to understand that egg."

As for the ending of the series, Baer told Digital Spy that the ending will be different from the book. This is because the ending changes as the show continues.
