Colin Farrell has confirmed that he will star in the second season of "True Detective." In an interview with Irish newspaper Sunday World over the weekend, the "Alexander" star said that he is excited to be a part of the series.

"I'm doing the second series. I'm so excited," he said. "I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids."

While details about the show are quite limited, the award-winning actor did say that it is still quite early in production, so schedules, cast, and locations are still being worked out. What is known so far is, the second season is independent of the first one and will involve new characters.

Farrell is known for his roles on the big screen, so people may wonder why he agreed to be on a television series. It is apparent that he admires how networks are now rolling out more quality programs with higher standards in both story and the production.

He said, "It's been shown time and time again how [channels like] HBO have raised the bar regarding production values and fundamentally the writing that all their shows are based on."

Other than the upcoming season of "True Detective," fans can also wait for the actor's upcoming movies.

"Solace" is now in post-production. Alongside Farrell, who plays a serial killer in the mystery-thriller, are Anthony Hopkins who takes on the role of psychic doctor John Clancy, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan who's an FBI agent searching for Farrell's character. It also stars Abbie Cornish, Sharon Lawrence, Kenny Johnson, Jose Pablo Cantillo, and Matt Gerald.

"The Lobster" is likewise in post-production. It's a sci-fi romantic thriller set in a dystopian future – the odd twist is, lonely citizens are obliged to find a mate in a hotel within a month and a half, or they will be transformed into animals. The movie stars Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, John C. Reilly, Lea Seydoux, and Olivia Colman.
