ABC's 'Trophy Wife,' which has garnered viewership from a growing number of evangelist fans, may not be honored with a second season.

Starring Malin Akerman, Trophy Wife is about a young, attractive woman, Kate, who marries an older man (The West Wing's Bradley Whitford). Her older husband, Pete, is two times a divorcee with three children. The comedy focuses on how both ex-wives and the current wife raise their children and deal with each other as women.

Television ratings site, "TV By The Numbers," predicts that the ABC show will be canceled once the end of the season airs. Akerman, who is in her first year of acting on broadcast television, shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the cast is hoping for a second season.

""People are really loving [Trophy Wife]," the 35-year-old actress said. "I have definitely noticed that we've gotten quite an engaged following, and I think the material is great. It takes a minute to get a show off of its feet. You've got to find the characters, the rhythm, the tone. I think we've really nailed it now. The last half of our season is pretty darn good." 

Sarah Haskin, one of the show's creators, is aware of the difficulties the show faced. Think Progress reported that throughout its season, Trophy Wife had trouble finding its audience. 

Part of the problem, according to the report, is the show's bad time slot. On a Tuesday night, competing with show's like The Mindy Project and NCIS: Los Angeles, the show did not seem to have a chance, especially without the lead of a popular ABC program like Modern Family.

The report also pointed out that the show's title may also be why its ratings were so poor. "We definitely intended for the title to be tongue-in-cheek and ironic,"  Haskins told Think Progress. "If audiences have been put off by it, it's because they aren't getting the irony."

If the show gets canceled, Akerman joked with The Hollywood Reporter, "I'll go over there and knock some teeth out if we don't get our second season."

For now, viewers can still catch the program before it comes to its predicted end. Over the next few weeks, Trophy Wife will air its last four episodes of the season.The season finale is set to air Tuesday, May 13 at 9:30 p.m on ABC.
