The Toyota Prius 2016 is a long awaited car by many. Its predecessor is aging and it is having a hard time staying current especially with the new hybrid cars made by Toyota competitors. The 2016 Prius is expected to be shown to the public in November at the Los Angeles Car show, and here are a few details that car enthusiasts can expect.

According to Toyota USA News, the exterior of the car has a thinner look compared to the previous Prius. It has a lower hood profile that is also longer. Because its front is rounded, its overall look becomes effortlessly sleeker, a modern car in every sense of the word. The vehicle is also larger but lighter than its predecessor, and its aerodynamic efficiency is reportedly better because of the materials used in its manufacturing like aluminum and carbon fiber.

The Toyota Prius 2016 is based on the modular platform Toyota is now using – Toyota New Global Architecture or TNGA, according to a post by MNRDaily. This platform does not only equate to lower manufacturing costs, it also means that the car has a lower center of gravity, improving its handling dramatically. Moreover, it means the structural integrity of the vehicle is high.

The interior of the Prius 2016 also sees many developments. The 3-spoke steering wheel is elegantly designed which complements the simple lines of the dashboard. At the center of the dash sits the instrument panel. The new Prius boasts more comfortable seats and a more spacious cabin. The center console has an LCD screen that should also house the GPS mechanisms of the car.

The Toyota Prius 2016 has a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine which is also complemented with an electric motor with a total output of 150 horsepower. The new electric motor is said to be smaller, making the car more efficient. It also uses a lithium ion battery. The combined mileage for the new Prius is rated at 55-60 MPG compared to the maximum 55 MPG of its predecessor.

The new car will have a price tag between $23,000 and $25,000.
