Top visitor attraction award for St Paul's Cathedral

St Paul’s Cathedral has been voted Visitor Attraction of the Year 2010 by members of UKinbound.

UKinbound is one of the leading trade bodies in the UK tourism industry and the only association to focus exclusively on the inbound sector.

St Paul's Cathedral said it had received the award in recognition of the improvements to the visitor experience it had introduced last year.

These included a permanent film exhibition, Oculus: an eye into St Paul’s, which was installed in the cathedral crypt. The 270 degrees panoramic experience tells the story of the history and daily life of the cathedral through a series of short films.

The cathedral also introduced inclusive touchscreen multimedia guides in 12 different languages, including BSL, and moved to include guided tours in the price of admission.

Mark McVay, Director of Marketing, PR & Visitor Services at St Paul's, said: “It is a great honour to have been recognised by our peers in the tourism industry for the improvements and developments that we have introduced at St Paul’s over the last year. We are extremely proud of this achievement.”

Around two million visitors and worshippers visit the iconic Christopher Wren masterpiece in the heart of London each year.
