An NFL return may be in the future of former star quarterback Tim Tebow.

Tebow was spotted working out with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, and sparked rumours that the northeastern team was considering signing him.

The Eagles are the first NFL team to work out the 27-year-old since he was cut by the New England Patriots in August 2013. Tebow was hired as a commentator for ESPN's SEC Network at the end of that year, and has not played in an NFL regular season game since December 2012.

Despite his absence from professional football, Tebow has continually expressed interest in returning to the field, and has been spotted completing NFL training exercises.

"I feel great, I'm feeling the strongest, healthiest... throwing the best I ever have," he said last summer. "So, I'm just really excited about the improvement."

Leading quarterback coach Tom House confirmed on Monday that Tebow is NFL ready.

"What amazes me is this young man, with no job prospects, has prepared just as hard as he would if he were the No. 1 quarterback for an NFL team," House told Albert Breer of NFL Media. "He's busted his butt. He spins the ball better than he did and he's much more accurate than he was. I think he's ready.

House worked with Tebow during his hiatus from football, and says that his problems with accuracy and spinning the ball have been corrected. The coach also revealed that the meeting with the Eagles was unexpected, with the team summoning the former Broncos star last week.

Tebow left the workout without signing a contract, and NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles do not plan on signing him. While Tebow has yet to comment on the matter, he has consistently insisted that he is putting his future in the hands of the Lord.

"One of my favourite quotes is: 'I don't know what the future holds, but I know who holds my future,'" he told FOX10 last year.

"In that, it gives you peace to just continue to work and go after what your heart desires. And when you do that, you don't have any regrets. And that's the best way to live life."
