Nina Dobrev promised to return to Mystic Falls before it is gone forever and it looks like the actress is keeping that promise in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Dobrev promised executive producer Julie Plec that she will return in the final season of the series. The year has come for that to happen and it looks like the actress is not looking to disappoint.

According to The CW president Mark Pedowitz, the star is now in negotiations with regards to reprising her role as Elena Gilbert in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

"We backed Julie in her decision... there are discussions going on with Nina, we'd love to have her back," Pedowitz revealed during the Television Critics Association press tour via E! Online.

"These are discussions that go on, hopefully she'll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans," he went on to say.

Should Dobrev return in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, Pedowitz teased that the actress will be back for "as many as Julie thinks she needs her for."

Pedowitz continued to gush about Dobrev and the work she put out for "The Vampire Diaries" and the network itself, reiterating that "we'd love to have her back."

At the moment, Dobrev's return as Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is not set in stone yet, but the network and the production team appear to be doing its best to bring her back.

It is also unclear how her comeback will be dealt with and whether it will be set in a flashback, the present or a flash forward. The last time fans saw her, Elena was cursed to sleep as long as Bonnie (Kat Graham) is alive.

That was in the sixth season. In the last season, she was mentioned quite a few times. Dobrev even did a recording for the scene when the monster from the Armory Vault lures Damon (Ian Somerhalder) inside.

Dobrev is not the only one to expect in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 as Tristin Mays is also set to return as Sarah Salvatore.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21 on The CW.
