A new intelligence officer will join USS Nathan James in the third season of TNT's post-apocalyptic drama "The Last Ship."

An exclusive report from Deadline revealed that the infamous Sin Rostro, who terrorizes the other characters of The CW's "Jane the Virgin," will join the cast of "The Last Ship" season 3. Bridget Regan will portray the role of a former Navy Intelligence Officer named Sasha, who will work under diplomatic cover in China as ordered by the newly rehabilitated US government.

Aside from the cast addition, the cable TV adaptation of the post-apocalyptic novel written by William Brinkley has also promoted actors Kevin Michael Martin and Bren Foster to become series regulars next season.

Martin portrays the role of Eric Miller, the youngest member of Cobra team who was seen constantly during the first two seasons of the series, while Foster portrays the role of Australian naval operator Taylor, who became a part of the USS Nathan James when they reached Norfolk last season. This time, these characters will be given bigger character arcs for the upcoming season.

"The Last Ship" centers on the international viral pandemic that almost killed the entire mankind. Since the USS Nathan James was deployed during the time of the pandemic, its crew managed to avoid acquiring the deadly virus. But since they are among the remaining survivors of the deadly virus, the crew lead by Commander Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) decided to look for a cure to stop the rapid spread of the virus to save the last remaining population on Earth.

While details about the third season of "The Last Ship" are still being kept under wraps, series creators Steve Kane and Hank Steinberg teased that the adventures that will be revealed next season can reach different parts of the world. "Season three is going to expand again into the wider world, which is going to be an exciting new palette and widen the scope of the show even more," Steinberg revealed to The Hollywood Reporter back in September.

"The Last Ship" season 3 is slated to premiere in the summer of 2016.
