'The Good Wife' season 7 spoilers, cast news: Matthew Goode leaves show ahead of new season

Matthew Goode as Finn Polmar in "The Good WifeCBS

It looks like Archie Panjabi won't be the only one leaving "The Good Wife." It was recently announced that Matthew Goode, who became series regular back in the legal drama's fifth season as Atty. Finn Polmar, will not be back for season 7 of the show.

His exit was foreshadowed in the finale of season 6 when the lawyer refused to join Alicia in her new up-and-coming law firm. It was not until recently, though, that fans had to face the music that it was the last of the character in the hit series.

Goode's role in the series gave viewers hope that Alicia would finally get another chance at love. Will's death back in season 5 is still fresh in fans' minds as this was what took away potential romance from the troubled former state attorney's life and it was what brought Finn to the fore.

Now that Finn had hit the road, website CarterMatt suggests that the time has come for Michael J. Fox's character Louis Fanning to step up. However, this remains to be a long shot as the site itself noted that the status of his role is still unclear at the moment.

Goode, now that his schedule is clear, will return to season 6 of "Downton Abbey" where he stars as Lady Mary's potential love interest, Henry Talbot. TV Line says that he will be back in the PBS series' ultimate season with a bang.

And while there is little chance that Panjabi, who played the role of Kalinda Sharma in the series, would return to the show, TV Line stated that at some point, Goode might be back, presumably in one or two more episodes. For now, it remains to be seen how Alicia will adjust to Finn's departure. It is also a bit of a mystery how Cary Agos will go on without Kalinda around.

"The Good Wife" season 7 has yet to get a premiere date but upon its return, it will deal with the good and bad of Peter running for vice president apart from the exit of Kalinda and Finn.
