Popular band Switchfoot has announced the launch date of their new album, following their critically acclaimed fifth studio album Nothing is Sound.

The new project, Oh! Gravity, will release the day after Christmas, December 26.

Switchfoot has recently cancelled their August European tour due to a family medical situation.

Although the band has been playing live music for years, they have never cancelled a show, according to their website.

They stated on their website: “We feel as disappointed as many of you might feel, please accept our apologies. We will absolutely be back as soon as we possibly can.”

Dates for their European tour included gigs in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Holland and Denmark.

Switchfoot’s latest album Nothing is Sound follows the group's multi-platinum 2003 breakthrough, The Beautiful Letdown, which spawned the hits "Dare You to Move" and "Meant to Live."

From 2003 to 2005, Switchfoot performed around 400 shows from recorded Nothing is Sound while on tour, and used their live performances to work on the new material before committing it to disc.

The band will embark on an autumn U.S. tour in October/November.

In 2004, Switchfoot’s frontman Jon Foreman claimed to be “Christian by faith, not by genre”.

"We've always been very open and honest about where the songs are coming from. For us, these songs are for everyone. Calling us 'Christian rock' tends to be a box that closes some people out and excludes them. And that's not what we're trying to do. Music has always opened my mind — and that's what we want."
