Neil Diamond performed his hit song "Sweet Caroline" at the 2013 MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field on Tuesday night.

Diamond performed along the infield grass in the middle of the eighth inning, and led the crowd of over 40,000 baseball fans to sing along with him.

Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" was written in 1969 and was inspired by President John F. Kennedy's daughter Caroline, who was 11 at the time. Diamond performed the song for her at her 50th birthday celebration.

"Sweet Caroline" has been playing at the Red Sox stadium since 1997. Since 2002, Boston's Fenway Park stadium played the song in the middle of the eighth inning in every game.

For the first time, the song was played at New York Yankee stadium on April 16 in honor of the Boston Marathon bombing victims.

Last night was the the first time the song was performed live at the Citi Field stadium in New York. Diamond's new single "Freedom Song" was also played during the game.

All proceeds of Diamond's song since the Boston bombings have gone towards charity – One Fund Boston – to help victims of the bombings. Sales of his song had surged 600 percent in the week after the bombings.

"Sweet Caroline" is also the most popular song for the biggest Rugby Sevens event in the world, the Hong Kong Sevens. The song is played every year at the event – with the crowd always singing along.
