'Super Smash Bros. 4' DLC release rumor: Next DLC to bring more characters?

Nintendo

Recently, rumors of a new DLC character joining the brawling title "Super Smash Bros. 4" made the rounds online. Although the character's creator denied the speculations, one thing that fans have been asking is if the next downloadable content for the title will add characters or just in-game items.

The most recent DLC for "Super Smash Bros. 4" was released just last month. However, instead of the expected character add-ons, the expansion pack had only added in-game bonus items for players, such as additional character costumes. Although some fans were disappointed, the released DLC fueled speculations that the next expansion will involve the game getting additional fighters.

According to a report from Yibada, a post on the forum NeoGAF by user Neoxon mentioned that based on the update files for patch 1.1.1, there are at least three empty character slots for the new version of the game. This means that an additional update could introduce three new fighters for the game. In the replies below the post, the thread starter named Wolf, Professor Layton, and Shovel Knight as probable additional characters.

However, although it has been recently rumored that Shovel Knight will make it to the "Super Smash Bros. 4" title, "Shovel Knight" developer Yacht Games was quick to deny the speculations, saying that the "Shovel Knight" amiibo being in the "Super Smash Bros. 4"-compatible category is just a mislisting.

Although Yacht Games has already denied the speculations, the rumors haven't died down. Fans are not taking stock on the developer's denials, since the company can still do a turn-around. Prior to the figurine release, Yacht Games also categorically denied that they were developing an amiibo for "Shovel Knight," and then went ahead and did it.

However, additional characters for "Super Smash Bros. 4" remain hearsay, since Nintendo has not made any comments about any upcoming update for the title
