'Super Smash Bros. 4' characters in new DLC include Mewtwo and Lucas; players vote for future roster additions

Mewtwo joins Super Smash Bros. 4 Wii-U and 3DSNintendo

"Super Smash Bros. 4" for the Nintendo Wii-U and 3DS is arguably Nintendo's only big hit in recent months, so it is no surprise that the company is focusing a lot of its attention on its current money-printing title. Nintendo is bringing newer characters to the table via DLC.

The officially announced DLC content will include Mewtwo from the "Pokemon" franchise and Lucas from "Mother 3," the Japan-only released sequel to "Earthbound."

Mewtwo will be available starting April 28. The character will cost $4 for individual purchase for the Wii-U and 3DS but players can also unlock for both versions for only $5.

Lucas, on the other hand, is scheduled for release in June. While the character is modeled after Ness, who also comes from the "Mother" game franchise, Lucas will have his own move set to distinguish him from his predecessor.

Nintendo is not done with character DLCs. Masahiro Sakurai, game director for the "Smash Bros." franchise, along with the rest of Nintendo, has launched the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot website. The website allows players to vote for characters they want to see added to the "Super Smash Bros. 4" roster. Players will get to vote and describe in under 500 characters why they want that character included in the game. According to a recent study by Gamespresso, the character currently leading the polls is Shovel Knight.

Microsoft is also joining in. Phil Spencer, Xbox head, stated via Twitter that he'd allow Nintendo to use the characters of "Banjo-Kazooie" in "Super Smash Bros. 4." Fans of the "Banjo-Kazooie" games will remember that the franchise started on the Nintendo 64 before the development company Rare was acquired by Microsoft.

Nintendo has not yet confirmed if they would be interested in taking up the offer and featuring "Banjo-Kazooie" characters in the game.
