'Suicide Squad' movie news: Therapist on set

The cast of Suicide Squad movie

Film director David Ayer is making sure that the cast members of DC Entertainment's "Suicide Squad" are well taken care of by hiring a therapist to help prevent any of them from getting too involved with their dark characters.

In an interview with E! News, actor Adam Beach, who portrays the role of Slipknot in the film, said that the director has required them to be true to their roles.

"David Ayer is about realism," the actor said. "So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing."

However, the director is still concerned about the welfare of the cast, which is why a professional has been asked to stay at the set while filming.

"We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous," the actor relayed. "There's a friend of [Ayer's] that's very unique in making sure we have our ground."

Beach was referring to a "life coach" who was hired to help the actors deal with their dark characters without getting too drawn with their reel life persona. It just means that the roles in the anti-superhero film are so dark that the risks of being too attached to the villainous characters could be dangerous for the actors.

But it seems like Jared Leto is already channeling his evil character at this point. Beach revealed the actor's unexpected gifts to some of their co-stars while he is unable to join them on the set during the first few days of work as The Joker.

According to Beach, Leto sent a love letter to Margot Robbie, who portrays the role of The Joker's love interest Harley Quinn, enclosed inside a black box. But in true tormenter's fashion, Leto included a live rat inside the box.

But it does not end there. Leto also sent Will Smith some bullets as a reminder of his marksman role as Deadshot, while the rest of the cast received a dead hog. He enclosed a video and a letter with the dark, twisted gifts, where the Academy Award winning actor was very much in character.

"Suicide Squad" is expected to come out on Aug. 5, 2016.
