"Stranger Things" has become one of the most popular shows on Netflix, and it came as no surprise when Netflix announced they were moving forward with season 2. Producer Shawn Levy has since spoken up about the next season and what fans can expect when the show returns in 2017.

Speaking on the Southern California Public Radio (via Collider), Levy confirmed that the series creators, the Duffer brothers, considered season 2 as a sequel instead of just another season to push the story forward. With that in mind, he also stated that there was a lot of pressure in making season 2 given how popular season 1 was.

Levy also explained that one of the big challenges was determining how much had to change for season 2 and what they could retain without the show feeling like a rehash of the first season.

"A lot of season 2 is next-level, some crazy stuff, but we must service these characters who are now beloved, who are known to the audience," Levy stated. "We had dinner with the kids. We could see it right in front of us. They are not the same. They are still, thank God, charming and authentic, but it is a different form of those things. I think we're going to stay honest with these kids by growing with them," the producer went on to say.

This would coincide with a previous statement where it was mentioned that the show would follow the format of the "Harry Potter" films where each season takes place one year later. This would allow the show to grow naturally as the main stars get older.

As stated in a report by /Film, the show will give hints and tidbits in the story of season 2 so that audiences can easily fill in the gap of what happened over the year, without the show spending too much time on exposition or flashbacks.

"Stranger Things" season 2 is set to premiere in 2017.
