Ten-year-old Taliq Davis from Texas, who is suffering from a rare type of cancer called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma or DIPG, has just celebrated his best birthday yet.

Hundreds of people, including friends and family wrote hand-written cards and letters to the brave young boy for his birthday, according to NBC Bay Area, but nothing can top the video greeting he received from his favourite NBA star—Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors.

In a video message he uploaded on his Twitter account (@stephencurry), Curry wished Taliq a happy birthday and a speedy recovery. The NBA star encouraged the young boy never to give up in his fight against DIPG, which affects the lower rear portion of the brain and causes the body's nervous system to lose function.

He wrote alongside the video: "Happy 10th Birthday to my man Taliq. Keep fighting, keep believing. We are all praying & rooting for you!"

Since he was diagnosed with DIPG on Feb. 18 this year, Taliq gained 55 pounds. His mother Tanisha wanted to cheer her son up for his birthday so she asked everyone she knew, including strangers, to send him some birthday cards.

"Taliq always wants to check the mail so knowing that he checks it all the time and brings it to me I felt like what better way than for him to go to the mailbox and every day there's something for him in there," Tanisha told KWTX.

Her plan worked. The many cards and letters that came cheered the young boy so much that he suddenly stopped complaining about headache for the first time in several months.

Her mother was overjoyed to see him smiling and expressing gratitude to the letters and cards he received.
