Sony Xperia Z4 release: Is the Xperia P2 the new smartphone that will land in the U.S.?

Users outside of Japan are waiting for the arrival of the freshly released Sony Xperia Z4, which launched to the country this month without making a buzz. The Japan-based manufacturer, however, did not mention plans of bringing the device overseas.

But a new leak suggests the possibility of the handset making it out of Japan. A Chinese website called cnBeta recently shared an image showing a device called the Sony Xperia P2 placed next to the Z4.

The website also posted a list of the device's set of specs, most of which are identical to that of the newly-released model. They have the same 5.2- inch full HD display. Both handsets make use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 3 GB RAM. The P2 is listed to come with a 32 GB model.

Other aspects, however, indicate that the two devices are not one and the same. The most obvious is the design and size. For one, the Z4 looks like a bigger brother to the P2 because of the latter's ultra slim bezels.

Despite this though, the Xperia flagship's 6.9 mm thin body makes the P2 a bit stocky for its 10.9 mm build. However, this thicker form suggests that the handset packs a big battery. CnBeta says it has a 4240 mAh battery unit, which should be huge and powerful, needless to say.

Perhaps the most surprising feature of the P2 is its camera. Sony is fond of integrating 20.7-megapixel rear-facing shooters to its devices. It has become a staple element actually, and the Z4 has one. Interestingly, the Xperia P2 is equipped with only a 12.1-megapixel snapper. Despite this major blow, users can take comfort in the P2's selfie shooter, which is set at 5 megapixels.

For now, all this is uncorroborated. Sony has not said a word about the alleged Sony Xperia P2 although many are already expecting that it will be the Sony Xperia Z4's international version.
