'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers, news: Fans displeased over 'Lucifer' storyline parallels; Ichabod and Diana to share different connection

Tom Mison's character Ichabod Crane will meet a bunch of new people in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4.FOX/Sleepy Hollow

With the surprise death of Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) in the show's third season, Fox's "Sleepy Hollow" will be undergoing many changes as Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) takes his journey from New York to Washington, D.C.

According to Fox Entertainment President David Madden, killing off Abbie was a tough call since she was one of the show's main characters. Abbie was killed last season in an act of self-sacrifice to defeat the Hidden One.

The Fox chief, however, assured viewers that they greenlighted season 4 because there were still a lot of stories left to tell about the lore of "Sleepy Hollow." There was also a ton of potential in the seeming reboot of the show with the introduction of the new Witness and the building of a new team, Game n' Guide reported.

The new Witness — who will help Ichabod in his new mission — will be portrayed by "True Blood" Alum Janina Gavankar. Gavankar will play Diana Malhotra, a Homeland Security agent and single mom who will be tough on the outside but caring on the inside, especially towards her daughter.

It was reported that she and Ichabod will not always see eye to eye on how to get their job done, but both characters will soon  reach an understanding as the story progresses. According to a description of Diana, it seems that the characters also share a deeper connection.

"The two of them will quickly realize they have another important point of connection though not one anyone would expect at first," the description read.

While the new setting and new characters hint at a new beginning for the show, there are some fans who have expressed displeasure over what they observed as some parallels to another supernatural series, "Lucifer."

Fans cited that the new character Diana bears a striking similarity with that of Lucifer's (Tom Ellis) love interest Chloe Decker (Lauren German), who is working as a homicide detective with the LAPD. Like Diana, Chloe is also a single mother .
