The fourth season of BBC TV series "Sherlock" will be bigger, better, and more devastating compared to the previous season. Reports claim that the showrunners are planning something big.

According to the show's co-creator Steven Moffat, the new season will even top the epic finale of season 3, with rumors claiming that Moriarty will be back from the grave in one form or another.

"We practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them the plan. Honestly, Mark [Gatiss] and myself are so excited with what we've got coming up, probably more excited than we've ever been about Sherlock. ... Honestly I think we can [top the last series]," he told Hollywood Reporter.

The show's protagonist, Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Sherlock Holmes, recently hinted that Moriarty is coming back. The return of his adversary will surely stir things up in the show. In one of his interviews, he gave a vague answer. He said that he casually chooses "to forget in order to rediscover it again a little bit."

Meanwhile, before the beginning of season 3, series co-creator, writer and executive producer Steven Moffat made it clear that Moriarty is dead. He said that Moriarty shot himself in the face, making it impossible for him to be alive.

Moffat also assured the waiting fans that the beloved characters will be back shooting amidst their hectic schedules. The two actors are shooting a movie. Currently, the team behind the series and the writers are busy at work concocting the production. Filming of fourth season was initially reported to start in January 2015. However, the fans may have to wait longer for the new season as there were rumors that the schedule will be pushed back.

"Sherlock" season 4 is returning to BBC in early 2016 with no official date yet. However, the series will also hold a Christmas special planned in December 2015, and will be based on the mystery "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle."
