Pop star Selena Gomez opened up in a recent interview about her first love, healing from emotional scars, and more. 

The 22-year-old had a very public, on-again, off-again relationship with pop superstar Justin Bieber, and admitted that the turmoil and media attention left her reeling. 

"There were a few months where I was a little depressed, where I wouldn't leave [my home] as much," she told V Magazine.

"I think I drove myself crazy for a little bit. It was just easier to say, 'Hey, do you mind running to the grocery store and picking some stuff up? I don't want to get photographed.'"

Although Gomez doesn't mention Bieber by name, she refers to her "first love," and how deeply the relationship affected her. 

"When you're young and you're being told so many different things ... it almost felt like all we had was each other, like the world was against us, in a way," she explained.

"It was really weird but it was incredible."

Although the singer and actress has been recently linked to 25-year-old music producer Zedd, Gomez made it clear that she is not looking for a relationship right now. 

"I think the next time [I have a boyfriend] will be much different ... which will definitely not be anytime soon," she admitted.

"That's a growing up kind of thing. I was 18 years old, and it was my first love. The older I get, I'm guarding certain things more."

Gomez is a committed Christian and frequently shares Bible verses with fans on her Twitter and Instagram pages. During some down time recently, she shared a picture of herself with her Bible open on her lap.

Despite some rocky times, the blossoming young woman maintained a positive attitude towards what lies ahead. 

"I would never take it back in a million years," she stated.

"You live and you learn, you know? I think this year is going to be incredible. I feel the best I've ever felt in my life."
