Scandal of Grace, the new single from Hillsong United

Hillsong have released their new single from the highly anticipated upcoming album Zion.

With Lent upon us and Easter just round the corner, the "Scandal of Grace" offers a fitting reminder of the price paid by Christ for our sins.

Verse 1 sings:

Grace what have You done
Murdered for me on that cross
Accused in absence of wrong
My sin washed away in Your blood

It goes on to declare that sin is dead and that the cross has taught us to live.

The day and its troubles shall come
I know that Your strength is enough
The scandal of grace
You died in my place
So my soul will live

Explaining the inspiration behind the song, Hillsong United leader Joel Houston says the scandal of grace is knowing that there is nothing we can do to earn it and that God just gives it freely to his children.

"When we think about scandalous, we think about something that is wrong, negative, but I love the paradoxical nature of the Gospel and the fact is the grace of God through Jesus is completely scandalous," he says.

"It is the reason they crucified Jesus, because of who he said he was and what he was there to do and it is the reason why so many people now have a hard time accepting the love and grace of Jesus.

"It is much easier to live by a set of rules or do all these good things to make your way to God but to think that he made his way to us and there are not enough good things we can do to get to God ... All we can do is accept the good things he did for us."
