Royal family join Easter service at Windsor Castle

The royal family attended an Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The Queen was dressed in a pale blue hat and suit as she greeted well wishers outside the chapel in dazzling sunshine and soaring temperatures.

She was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh but Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were not in attendance. Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry were also absent from the service.

The Princess Royal was also in attendance with her husband Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, and the Duke of York and his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Windsor is the traditional venue for the royal family at Easter. The service was conducted by the Dean of Windsor, the Rt Rev David Connor.

It is one of the Queen’s last formal engagements before Prince William and Kate Middleton wed in Westminster Abbey on Friday.

The Local Government Association said it has received around 5,500 road closure requests from people wanting to hold street parties to celebrate the wedding.

The number of applications has risen by 1,500 in the last three weeks.
