"Rick and Morty" season 3 currently has no official release date but the show is still moving forward. Speaking to Den of Geek, writer Dan Harmon did reveal that season 3 is on the way and that the studios have been actively working and now with a staff of new writers.

"We hired a bunch of new writers," Harmon explained in the report. "There was a craving for a gender balance in the writers' room that we had never had, but I'm also very proud of the fact that we didn't compromise ourselves following that craving."

Harmon also pointed out that the introduction of female writers to the show may have resulted from both the team actively hunting for female writers and from female writers noticing that the show is getting popular and are lacking in gender diversity and therefore applied for the position.

The addition of new writers will also affect the general direction that the series will take with season 3. Harmon did confirm that the cliffhanger seen at the end of season 2 will be resolved quickly in order to allow the series to move on with newer plotlines and problems.

In regard to the release date, a previous report points out that it is now heavily speculated to release by early 2017, although the studios have yet to make an official confirmation regarding this.

The official Twitter account for the series stated that every time someone would ask when the series would premiere its third season, the studios would push the release back by another month. Of course this is merely intended to be a light-hearted joke but it also confirms that no concrete release date has been decided at the time being.

Despite this, fans can quench their anticipation a little bit by spending time with the new "Pocket Mortys" mobile game, which is available for both iOS and Android devices. The game plays a lot like traditional "Pokemon" games but now with the dark and satirical humor of the "Rick and Morty" series.
