Various Christian groups have spoken out in recent years of the need for Europe to develop its mission strategies, and revive Christianity once again across the continent. One core way to do this is the need for efficient mission training.

Answering this call is Gloucester-based, Centre for Mission Training, Redcliffe College, which will in September launch its new European Mission Track.

The need for training in missions throughout Europe has become an increasing worry for Christianity over recent years, and the European Mission Track includes two new modules covering European history, as well as context and thought, apologetics to the secular mindset and new religious movements.

The new modules will be taught by a combination of Redcliffe’s tutors as well as bringing in various visiting mission practitioners who are working in partnership with Europe-focused Christian organisations.

Rob Hay, the College’s Director of Research and Partnership Development said: “We are excited about the opportunity to equip the growing number of men and women from around the world who want to be relevant, effective missionaries in one of the most challenging contexts for mission today.

“Over the last few years, increasing numbers of European and non–European students have trained at Redcliffe in preparation for mission in Europe. We have developed the European track in order to meet their specific training needs, and after consultation with several key European mission leaders and practitioners.”

According to Rob Hay, consultant and researcher in Mission at Redcliffe College, the proportion of missionaries sent to unreached peoples has risen from 1-2% in 1970 to 28% in 2005.

Redcliffe are hoping that particularly across Europe, that the new Centre for Mission Training will provide a foundation for the growth of mission-focused ministries.
