'Quantico' season 2 spoilers: Simon and Liam may appear via flashbacks

Simon Asher (Tate Ellington) teased to return via flashbacks in season 2ABC

"Quantico" season 1 ended with an explosive finale as it was revealed that Liam (Josh Hopkins) was the traitor and terrorist in the group, leading to the events that killed both Liam and the heroic Simon (Tate Ellington). However, series creator Josh Safran recently revealed that while both are dead, they could still return via flashbacks.

Speaking to TV Guide, Safran first confirmed that the characters are dead. Liam was shot in the head and Simon sacrificed himself by driving the nuclear bomb off a bridge and down into the lake to contain its blast.

"Never say never. It is my hope that both Josh and Tate immediately jump onto new projects because they're great actors and they should be working all the time," Safran stated. "But if they were available and wanted to come back for flashbacks, I would love to have them. Definitely Simon is very part of Alex's mental state and mindset."

In regards to Alex (Priyanka Chopra) it is revealed that season 2 will pick up right where season 1 ended, with Alex leaving the FBI and joining the CIA. However, there will be elements in season 2 where the two agencies will work together and Safran teased that they will converge at certain points or episodes on the show.

If this does happen then it is likely that Alex will go through several emotional roller coasters as she goes back and forth between the two agencies and the experiences she had with both. It is speculated that this may trigger the flashbacks involving Simon and Liam, particularly Simon given his connection to Alex in season 1.

Safran also confirmed that season 2 will be premiering this fall, although he did not give a specific release date. It is possible that the studios are still in discussion regarding when season 2 would complete production and when it will air.
