Premier Lifeline reaches millionth call

Premier Christian Media's confidential helpline has reached a milestone with its millionth call.

Premier Lifeline was launched in 1995 and and received its millionth call on 10 July from a distressed woman suffering from depression.

The service offers confidential emotional and spiritual support from a Christian perspective.

The caller was able to talk through some of the things that were worrying her with a trained counsellor and receive encouragement as well as a prayer for a peaceful night.

Premier said one of the most common subjects discussed during calls was marriage.

"The one millionth call is, obviously, a major milestone for us, underlining the importance of a helpline which offers a Christian perspective on issues which us all from time to time," said Peter Kerridge, chief executive of Premier Christian Media.

"We look forward to being of further service to the community in the coming years."

The milestone coincided with a new Premier campaign to recruit 70,000 people to pray for the 70,000 callers expected over the next 12 months.
