PrayerMate app launches on Android

The PrayerMate app is now available free to Android users following a successful Kickstarter campaign supported by the Diocese of London.

The app was launched on Apple devices last year to encourage Christians in praying for and with each other, and was shortlisted twice for the Christian New Media Awards.

PrayerMate helps people to remember all the people and causes they want to pray for, and sends helpful prompters to remind people to pray.

The iOS version has been downloaded 17,000 times and a Kickstarter campaign was launched with the goal of raising £2,500 to bring it to Android.  In the end the goal was surpassed, with just under £2,800 being raised.

The campaign was given an extra boost when the Diocese of London threw its weight behind it as part of its "Pray for Seven" initiative, allowing developer Andy Geers to offer it for free.

The launch also coincides with a new feature on the app for both iOS and Android devices - an Operation World prayer feed.

"It has been so encouraging to get sponsorship from the Diocese of London and support from many others across the world," he said.

"We have many new features planned across both platforms as well as access to many new online resources, such as Operation World's 'Country of the Day'.

"We are excited that the app is blessing people in their spiritual life and we just hope it will continue to encourage Christians in praying for each other."
