'Powerpuff Girls' reboot spoilers: first look at new villain Manboy

The very first clip for the "Powerpuff Girls" reboot cartoon has been launched online and it showcases the titular girls facing off against a new villain in the series, Manboy. The clip is less than a minute long but as stated in a report from Screen Rant, it clearly shows the kind of direction and style that the reboot is going for.

Manboy is described as a villain who wants to turn Townsville back to its "manly roots" by closing what he refers to as a "hippie carnival." When the Powerpuff Girls come in to save the day, he outright laughs at their face and calls Buttercup a princess, a title that the girls do not take positively, similar to their portrayal in the original series.

Angered, Buttercup rushes in and tosses Manboy off to the distance and he can still be heard screaming "You throw like a girl."

The clip showcases that while the animation is modern, it still takes cues from the original series, bearing a striking similarity to the original's artstyle and quick-cut motions. Even the designs on Buttercup, Blossom and Bubbles are relatively similar.

It also showcases the new voices for the girls. As stated in the report, new voice actors were brought in for the reboot instead of calling back the original cast. This is speculated to be Cartoon Network's move to distance the reboot from the original and allow the reboot to live on its own abilities without being overshadowed by the original.

Despite this, Tom Kenny will be reprising his role to voice the show's narrator and Mayor of Townsville. Blossom is voiced by Amanda Leighton of "The Fosters," Bubbles is being voiced by "Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn" actress Kristen Li and Natalie Palamides of "Burning Bridges" voices Buttercup.

"The Powerpuff Girls" will be airing this spring.
