Field testing for the highly anticipated mobile game "Pokemon Go" is about to launch in the United States. Developer Niantic Labs has announced on the official "Pokemon Go" website that registration for the field test is now ongoing, indicating that the game is nearing its global launch. 

According to the announcemnt, registering to the field test does not automatically mean a person will be able to participate. It is likely that there are very few limited slots for the field testing period and registration may be on a first-come basis. 

"Because the game involves numerous people playing in multiple countries at the same time, we have a lot to test before we publicly launch. This is why we are asking for your help," reads the official announcement. "We would love for you to - if selected - download the field test version and play it. Your regular gameplay and feedback will help us iterate, polish and make the game launch-ready."

It is stated that in order to be eligible, a player must be using an Android device with Android version 4.3 and above or an iOS device with iOS 8 and above. Players will also sign a privacy statement that asks the player to avoid sharing videos or images with friends or the online community. 

As stated in a report from Gamespot, this has failed miserably as there have been video leaks of gameplay footage when the game was running its field test in other countries such as Australia. 

"Pokemon Go" uses modern GPRS and augmented reality technology to allow players to "encounter" Pokemon creatures in the real world as they travel around their home and city. Players can use their phone or the optional gadget to capture, train and trade their Pokemon with other trainers. Pokemon battles can also be conducted although the exact mechanics have yet to be revealed.

"Pokemon Go" is scheduled to be released within the year.
