NFL Sunday Night Football takes place tonight with a huge match up between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Carolina Panthers. This Week 7 NFL 2015 regular season clash will see the Panthers as big favorites to claim a sixth win and continue their perfect start to the new season, but the Eagles have recently taken over at the top of the NFC East and will want to continue that momentum with another win today. Although the Panthers have been excellent this season so far, and the Eagles have been decidedly mediocre for most of it, this one cannot be written down as belonging to Carolina quite yet.

The Panthers will remember what happened last year when they came up against the Eagles - a game that resulted in a heavy and devastating defeat for Carolina.

The Eagles were on top of the Panthers from the start, forcing two turnovers from Carolina's first three offensive snaps, and at one point the Eagles were a massive 38 points ahead. Carolina did pull things back a little by the end but that 21-45 defeat will still be lingering in the memories of the players who took part, and they will want to ensure that nothing similar happens again today.

Carolina's Ron Rivera has acknowledged the devastating defeat last year, but as quickly dismissed it having any affect on his team today: "Hey, they whipped us last year, so there's a challenge. They're a playoff-caliber team. The bottom line is about us doing our job and playing to our capabilities."

Earlier this week on Thursday Night Football, the Seattle Seahawks destroyed the San Francisco 49ers 20-3 as they shut down the 49ers' offense to great affect.

San Francisco were not even able to get onto the scoreboard until the second half, and when they did it would be a solitary field goal effort in the third quarter.

That result gave the Seahawks their fourth straight win over the 49ers, and it will have pleased them to dump San Francisco down to the depths of 2-5, effectively ending any lingering thoughts that the 49ers had of being able to make the Playoffs.

The Seahawks have been gaining a reputation for having fourth quarter collapses this season, and that has undermined their efforts for their division race. But there was to be no repeat of those collapses on Thursday, as they gained their first road win in four attempts to go 3-4 and within touching distance of a more mediocre .500 record.

On Thursday Night Football, quarterback Russell Wilson completed 10 of his first 12 passes to impose himself on the game, and finished the game with 235 yards passing. However, he was also alarmingly sacked five times as his team failed to give him adequate protection.

Marshawn Lynch scored a spectacular touchdown, jumping the pile for a one yard score, and overall ran for 122 yards, although the most memorable moment for many about Lynch's performance on Thursday may have been when he vomited on the sidelines in the first half.
