"Persona 5" is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated RPGs for current-generation consoles but very little has been verified regarding the title's release schedule. However, a new report from Latino Review indicates that the game might be released prior to the end of the year.

According to the report, a SEGA financial report indicates that the game will come out within the 2015-2016 fiscal year. The statement reads as follows:

In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, the Group will launch new titles mainly for the Group's mainstay IP including 'Persona5' which will be the latest title from the Persona series boasting over 6 million total copies sold along with implementing transitions of IP for packaged games such as 'Total War' series into digital games mainly in overseas."

As stated by VG24/7, the fiscal report also indicates why "Persona 5" is being released almost simultaneously in the United States and Japan. For most games, they are released several months ahead in Japan since it takes time to translate the project, which includes hiring English voice actors to re-dub the dialogue.

The report points out that the "Persona" games have sold well over 6 million copies worldwide although it isn't clear if these are direct shipments or retail sales to consumers. The franchise really started to gain some steam with the release of "Persona 3," when the game's system and plot shifted to focus on the lives of ordinary high school students. More than half of these sales were in the United States and the U.K., which is why the studios are focusing on releasing the game overseas about the same time they release it in Japan.

Previous games in the franchise focused on students using mystical "personas" to hunt down criminals, but in the newest entry, they are delinquent students being hunted down by something unknown and supernatural.

"Persona 5" will be released for both the PS3 and PS4.
